These beautiful Rose Gold 'Fortitude' Poppy earrings have been crafted by Anna Leyland using Acrylic with Sterling Silver hooks.
'Fortitude'
The Flanders’ Poppy is a symbol of remembrance as it was the first plant to re-emerge from the soil of soldiers’ graves during the First World War. Anna‘s new artwork ‘Fortitude’ incorporates this poppy as a special commission for the 2021 RSA Poppy Appeal. ‘Fortitude’ represents strength and courage in the face of adversity ~ something displayed in service by all that fought for our country. This artwork holds personal meaning for Anna also in remembrance of her relatives who fought at Gallipoli, her Great Uncle who died during battle in the second War and both Grandfather’s whom fought in WWII; one receiving the DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross) medal for bravery.
Anna Leyland began her artistic journey through creating oil portraits. In 2012, she became inspired by her graphic design background and began exploring pattern making and symbolism, aiming to create conversations around the diversity and multiculturalism within Aotearoa.
Anna is deeply inspired by the beauty of life and the mix of cultures within New Zealand, an interest that shines through in her contemporary acrylic jewellery.
